New turkeys

So kinda an impulse buy, but been wanting them. Got two from a local farm and feed shop. They say they are bronze turkeys. So far loving them regretting how loud one is lol. They are in the broader box with the quail right now but the quail are going outside tomorrow. If you have any good advice for these two. Would love to hear it.

If you got them from a feed store, they are most likely Broad Breasted Bronze so don't get attached to them.

Broad Breasted turkeys were developed as a fast growing meat bird to be processed at 4 to 6 months of age. Those that get them as pets are often frustrated by the health problems and short lives they can have.

Ah these were unsure of going to be meat of pet. Gonna get red bourbon eggs in a couple of months. How can you tell the difference between broad breasted and regular though

The broad breasted will grow much faster and get much bigger than the heritage turkeys. As they mature, you will notice stockier legs and the breast will be wide compared to a heritage turkey which will have more of a V shape to its breast.

Other than the possible health problems and normal short life expectancy the broad breasted turkeys tend to be docile and loving. Many people who buy broad breasted turkeys fall in love with them and then feel terrible when they develop leg problems or heart problems, etc.
