He pecks at the starter, but I've only seen him swallow a couple crumbs.

He loves the egg.

So more Qs

1.) Should I give him sugar water through-out the day, or only a couple times per day?

2.) He sleeps a ton more than a normal chick...Is that OK?

3.) Today he's not drinking or eating as much as yesterday, but still picks at it here and there. Is that a problem?

Thanks!

It might take him a little bit longer to get caught up. My little “runt” took almost 4 days to catch up. Have you seen him poop yet? I would offer the sugar water throughout the day just to be on the safe side. You might also want to mix it in with the egg yolk a little bit. I believe that he just needs to rest a lot (after all he went through some stress  ) so I am hoping he will start to bounce back. He may not be out of the woods yet but it sounds to me as though he is improving greatly. I would definitely keep pushing the egg yolk and make sure that he gets plenty of liquid as well. Is he comfortable under his heat lamp? Does he maybe need a bit more heat? I have also used duck eggs for egg yolk soup before and they are much richer. That may help too. Is he chirping a lot?

Yes he poops quite a bit. Again, not as much as other chicks, but hes not getting

as much food, either. He seems comfortable, when he is awake he chirps alot,

They're not loud chirps, but sweet soft ones like you hear when a chick is under

mommy. Everynow and again he'll let out a couple big chirps, but that's usually

when he tumbles. He started

'hoping' around the brooder, instead of crawling. I had to take the splint off to put a new one on

(Hes messy

) And he can stand, and even walk a bit, but that one leg still goes out to the side

so hes really off balance and wobbly. Put a new band-aid aroud his legs, and hes now sleeping

Sure sounds like he is on the right path in my eyes. Like I said, I have not yet had any experience with splayed legs at all but it may also cause him some pain. Hence he/she does not want to move/eat a lot. I do hope though that the chick will pull through. Good luck
