I think this is an awesome experiment and the young gent should be commended for thinking outside the shell. How many of us have accidentally killed chicks during incubation, or even had one stop developing mid-way? He is not purposefully killing the young bird like the "Day 7 Embryo" photos (you know, the website we all use after an eggtopsy to see when our chicks died...), but is seeing if it can develop without a shell. If it were to work this is 1st place at the Science Fair material.
I say let the egg in the bag, keep documenting like you've been doing. Yes, the embryo will probably die, but why not see it though? For what its worth though, in highschool we did osmosis experiments with a plain ziploc baggie, and anyone who has ever bagged dog poop knows that it still stinks no matter how 'sealed' the bag is. Water won't leak from a bag, but I'm convinced small particles can move through it.
I LOVE the idea of carefully breaking a hole in the shell and covering it with the permeable membrane as experiment #3.
One small request - I'm still in the dark ages and have a dialup connection, therefore no youtube for me. Can you post a written update as well as the video?
