New with PO question

OH good im glad! Yep I have a normal mail box, and that's pretty much the issue here, our postoffice is in the next town over, and its' a very small office and they close extreemly early too early to get up that way lol

If your mail usually is delivered to your house, then the package will come to your house if sent by US mail just like any other package sent US mail AS LONG AS you don't have them write 'hold at PO, call for pickup' on the box.

I've ordered eggs several times and always had them left on the front porch like any box or parcel too big to fit in the mailbox.

that is wonderful to hear so either way im covered because my mail lady does with packages drive up the driveway and beep the horn (she wont get out because of our beware of dog signs- even though the outside dogs are kenneled). lol. YAy im so excited!

Hi and Welcome!
Yes, and yes! Unless you KNOW your mail carrier has a grudge against you, you should be fine having eggs delivered 'right to your door' (my carrier doesn't actually come to the door, she honks and I meet her in the lane to pick up packages

I had a new (to here) driver for UPS today and he scared the starch out of us all (me and the hounds).
We are at a dead-end road and he'd parked and turned around, then walked the package back up the lane.
Speaking of how not to ship fragile items --- we frequently get 'fragile and delicate' parts shipped here . A box full of bubblewrap and packing pillows doesn't accomplish anything if the 'delicate thing' is on the very top or bottom of the box --- just putting the packing materiel IN the box with the Fragile Item doesn't count for 'packaging'.
Welcome again and sorry for the distraction,

I'm actually not looking in to chickens (alteast not right now) i'm hoping to find atleast 2 dozen (but hoping for 3 dozen) bob white quail fertile eggs. theres a commertial breeder not far from me but I dont think they allow local pick-up, but supposedly they offer to go through Fed x so that's a good option for me

As a mail carrier I here's my experience. If you have dogs that are an issue for your carrier make sure you're home when the package arrives otherwise they'll take them back to the PO and leave you a notice to come pick them up. Maybe you could have them call upon arrival just to make sure you'll be home. If they do leave a notice call and have them redeliver the following day otherwise they'll sit there for up to a week before a second attempt is made.

As a postal worker I've never witnessed anyone deliberatly shaking a package marked eggs. The fact is the shipping process is just really hard on them. I'm suprised any hatch at all.

I completely agree with you, no point in putting that stuff in if the bottom or top isn't protected. What i find odd is places that put bubble wrap in packages that don't need it (like my cats special ordered canned cat food...i could care less if it gets a dent lol)!

My mail lady is very nice, and i completely understand her fear, she can't trust that we are always going to have our dogs locked up when they aren't under our control. It all happened because our neighbors dog bit her one time so now she wont come out for anyone poor lady. I'd be scared too.

I agree too, I've never got eggs shipped to me, but with bumps in the road, other packages accidentally falling on the boxes, being moved around in the trucks...it is a suprise...but i am greatful some make it.

I can understand her fear. Even if you're dog isn't a problem she may be afraid the neighbors dog will run onto your property. There are houses I don't deliver to for that very reason. Not to mention if we do get bitten the safety training and paperwork we have to go through are unreal.
