Degan thought, Well, I must of missed that testosterone train. He was fine being a submissive rooster. He just like talking to the ladies without the complication of doing the deed. He was always called a lover not a fighter and to breed you had to be a fighter.

"That's good." Frindizzle replied with a hint of amusement.

"Never in my life have I seen a rooster hurt a hen, but if he does he is the worst, most disrespectful rooster I have seen. Even fighting roosters are polite to their hens." He said. "And they're quite nasty."

Pat was surprised with her talking about needing more fertile eggs and all he didn't want to breed with her. "So, are you good friends with King Tut?" She asked.

"Well, he hasn't challenged me yet, so I like to think he doesn't see me as a threat. To his girls at least, I'm a very small silkie...if he does challenge me I guess I'll have to move on. I hope that's why he let me be. I was a disappointment to both my mom and dad." Degan concluded.

"You're no disappointment to me." She said sweetly. "I don't care for fighting roosters."

He was almost beaming at her kind words. For the first time in a while, he didn't feel like an outsider. He knew he was odd and he accepted it. But others tended to look down on him.....well okay, let's be honest here Degan, he told himself. Who doesn't look down on you. Your so small. They would have to lay on the ground to look up to ya...where was I? he asked himself again...oh right, but he kept on going. Then he looked at her again and said aloud," Thank you, Pat. That is really nice of you to say."

"Well, it's true." She said and smiled. "Never let bullies let you down." She told him.

"I'm gonna kill that idiot." King Tut said angrily.

"No, he'll learn I'll let a jackel eat him." He laughed. He limped toward the nest where Violet lay. He lay a little ways away and preened the blood from his feathers

Velvet stared at him. "Are you okay? You're covered in blood!" She said worriedly.
