New Year Block swap

Watched a few video's on paper piecing, may give it a try tonight, I'm dying to see how the colors look together, especially that turquois fabric.

It was surprisingly hard to find the fabric that was in my head that I wanted for this block, so I'm really hoping the fabric I have does what I want it to.

Just catching up with things. Kassaundra, I do exactly what you said and print on tracing paper for paper piecing ( we call it foundation piecing). I have found that the cheapest pads of very poor tracing paper are the best. They print well and they tear off easily. If you shorten you stitch it helps with tearing the paper too., but is a pain for unpicking.

I checked out the actual foundation paper, made for quilting while I was at Hancocks yesterday, it was $15 for 10 sheets!!!!!!!

Just for this one project I would have needed 48 sheets (not counting for mistakes) needless to say I am sticking w/ tracing paper at $3 for 40 sheets. And it goes through the printer just fine.

I have received my fabric for the Jan block, I hope it's going to be okay?

I will only use a bit of the eggplant color.

This second photo is of the class I took this week American Jane Merry-go-round quilt, 9 to 2 without even a lunch break! I was so tired, plus low blood sugar, I did not do a good job at the end. I will keep going, the lady who taught it gave me her number and I can come to the shop anytime and she will help me. With this fabric, a moda Jelly roll, I will have to sew all the half hexes and then arrange them on the wall, too many lights and darks to just throw them in randomly.

@minichicks Happy Bday :) Looks like it is the week for we bday gals to get gifted fabric!

@RustyHen - fabrics looks great

@Kassandra - I can't even begin to think about paper piecing , but wow you go on that, the sample block is beautiful & I'm sure yours will be too...

@Kat - not even sure it was this thread, but small world my sister moved to Ancorage Alaska June 2011 , she works split between there & Palmer - I'll pm you...is your brother single by chance ;>

I am now, official DONE w/ pickles for the year -- I've lost count but something over 12 Gal. canned, I feel like the shrimp guy in Forest Gump , "well thee are regular pickles, mustard pickles, relish, smoked ancho pepper relish, or you can brine 'em, then can 'em so you got your piccalilli and your hot piccalilli w/ wassabi , and bread&butter pickles and and and" ...I need a nap.

Had to tarp my grow out pen in a hurry just b/f dark (after pulling the last batch of wassabi hot piccalilli) b/c we are behind on unexpected repairs to the large coop, where I intend to move the basically grown pullets to mix w/ the layers & CL Roo for the winter, but tonight it looks like snow clouds :( I hope it holds off a few more days. We have plans to buy the nec 2x4 Monday and repair & whitewash Tue. Then I can combine the 6 new birds w/ the 6 old birds so they will all be cozy together and the new birds will get to free range w/ the layer flock -- this was all scheduled for the 3 wks in Sept. when I was sick. I'm sure I'll get caught up eventually. Before I can do the blocks for this swap I have to finish the log cabin twin size for my 2nd cousin, do a the baby quilt for the boy born Nov 5th & pick what block I'm doing.

@ minichicks happy birthday and what a great present

@RustyHen lovely fabric and love the hexes, your eggplant color is very pretty too.

@FeyRaine no brother is not single. I went to Alaska a few years back and so pretty. I hope you get to go there someday.
