New Year Block swap

MUG RUG SWAP

This is who I have for the mug rug swap. Rusty Hen, Coldupnorth,Kassaundra, Majack, Katsdar,Cathiesue,Fenrosie,Keepmumsane,Quailtrail,Minniechicks.

Is there anyone else who would like to join in on the mug rug? Also are we going to do the swap in Jan? Is that the consensus?

Vellum paper seems so brittle, and it is much more expensive.

Not the vellum. Im thinking of the non iron in interfacing. We use it for pattern drafting as its not stretchy, comes in light weight to quite heavy. Youre probably on a good idea Anyway with your plan, thinking out loud.,:D

January works for me.. time to get through the christmas visitations and have fun with it. ;)

I just got the coolest bday box in the mail from my sister-- she sent me a fabric stash!

Literally everything from tiny 3x5 pieces to about a doz fat quarters other odd fabric and all wrapped in 4 yds of geometric print appolstry fabric. She is _not_ crafty, so I teased her she must have cat burglered a neighborhood to get this stuff ;> I favor scrappy quilts & am all the time doing fast gift quilts for weddings/babies/houseburntdown you name it so this is a treasure box of creative fun. I figured you other quilters would understand. (& you can tell your families about it as a hint hint too.)

Ok off to finally finish canning pickles, then I'm gonna reorganize my stash of fabric, (move the brooder box of chicks so I can) do laundry, bake ban. bread & somewhere in there hunt for the perfect block for this swap on a coffee break.

Wahoo! Best gift ever!
Moving the chicks to get to the fabric, most excellent!
Sounds like home.
Happy :weee birthday !

Awesome and thoughtful gift!

I went by Hancock fabrics and didn't find any "pop" fabric I liked more then the one I already had. I need to make a test block to see if they all work together like they do in my head.

What size is good for the mug rugs
a mini quilt that is usually between the size of a coaster and a placemat, which turns out to be just the perfect size for a cup of whatever you're drinking and a little treat beside it.
mostly fall in between the sizes of 4"x6"-ish to 6"x10"-ish. your the artist so what ever size you make it, this is just a suggestion.

Well what a wonderful b-day gift, your sis need to adopt anymore girls?

I told her ya'll think the gift rocks, & that several of you would like her to adopt them ;>

(Of course this also means I'm gonna need to put her back on the quilt list,
she has recently gotten dumped after a 4 yr. moved 3,000miles to be together relationship
& she kinda hinted when she pointed out that her new _solo_ apartment is sparsely furnished but
features several items handmade by me to include pottery & 2 quilts...then I get a bday gift of fabric about
25% of which I noticed features her fav. colors. But its ok, if she is gonna feed my stash then I can do a new
quilt on her every 4-5 yrs major breakup schedule...)

So now I'll block hunt for this swap AND the future new quilt for her,
I don't have a digital pic of the 1st one, but it was my first full sized quilt after doing 1 baby quilt, it was Ohio Star in lime green & dark purple.
Here is the second, all wool recycled from old wool clothing, the design is my own & is based on the old underground railroad block meanings,
basically it wishes her as safe journey north to her warm new home (she was graduation & moving from FL to Alaska!)
If you look close you see a row of buttons down the one side & half the bottom --
I made it so it can be folded lengthwise & used as a wool sleeping bag,'cause I'm practical that way :)

Part of what I love about quilts is that they tend to tell a story and hold personal history in a functional piece of art/handicraft.
