Hi! I'm in the city as well, and My duck and two geese just hatched! I still have 2 more goose eggs in the bator, but they will be here in 2 to 3 days.

Right now our babies are in my daughter's room. I bought 3 plastic bins and 3 heat lamps. Then I read how dangerous the heat lamps could be, so I decided to buy 3 of these instead. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008HVM56Q/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's perfect and they run right under it! I also used this incubator, which was totally awesome! For someone having never hatched eggs before to have all of the eggs hatch that were in lockdown, I'm very happy! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00303XAHO/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I also have 2 cats, and yes, they want to eat them! However, I brought the cats near their brooder, and brought the duckling out and held it for the cats to smell. Then, I set the duckling down with my hands close to it and it tried to go under my cat LOL My cat just sat there, not sure what to do. But my other cat was trying to jump into the brooder! So, we will guard them closely and have the cats sniff them daily, to get to know them.
I bought this to keep them indoors in when they get bigger... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ATBR5C/ref=oh_details_o02_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's light weight and very easy to carry, and very portable. I like that it has a top! I will put puppy pads down in this and just throw them away daily.
Oh, speaking of bedding, I used pine shavings for the brooder and ended up throwing it out! The babies were trying to eat it! Also, it was getting all over their down and all over the floor. Someone recommended just putting a small towel down and washing it every day. So, I did that, and it works just fine! I might even just put paper towels and throw them away, saving me washing time!
I bought a 5' kiddy pool today for $9.99! We will let them swim out side in that, but tonight, they get their first swim in the bathtub LOL
Oh, and the reason I had to get 3 bins and 3 heating plates...... because I have 3 kids! I know better than to not make it even LOL They have each named their baby, the last 2 geese, my husband and I will name.
We are not planning on keeping the babies though, we will return them to the farm after their a little older. So, we will hatch, raise and return throughout the year. Our winters are so bad, we wouldn't have anywhere to let them play except indoors, so no duckies during the winter.
Right now, I have 1 Pekin duck, 1 Embden goose and 1 troulouse goose. The troulouse was a surprise as I was told I was only given Pekin and Embden!
I hope you don't mind if I join this thread, you all seem so nice and we are all kind of in the same boat!
