newbie hatching egg mistake?

today i just bought 100+ corturnix quail hatching eggs and after sitting outside in the hot sun i began to think will my eggs that are being shipped be cooked in this hot weather and did i just waste money. it gets up to 110 degrees normally the time of year here (Goodyear,AZ.) will this cook them immediately or will they be alright for a while in this weather?

Hopefully they will be stored in a semi cool area between locations. And not sitting in a hot truck. I'd stick them in the incubator right away just in case they have started incubating (even just before an egg is laid, there's some develop going on anyhow). Especially if they feel warm to the touch when you receive them. Then I'd throw "storing the eggs in a cool area to settle for 24 hours after shipping" out the window in this circumstance. I'm sure it'll be ok

thanks for the reply. i was reading a thread earlier that said the same thing you said, to put them in right away if they are hot and think that is what i will do and not turn on my turner for a full day to let the embryos rest from shipping. i hope to hatch at least 20 and anything over that i was going to sell anyways.

darn i think i made another newbie mistake i didnt think about 4th of july coming and that is when my eggs are suppose to be here

anyone know if they treat eggs differently or will they be stuck in a hot warehouse in this 110 degree weather for another day?

Unfortunately, they don't treat shipped eggs anymore differently than other shipped boxes and packages. Even if they are marked. Shipping can be very brutal on eggs. Almost every single egg I receive in the mail have suffered ruptured or abnormal sized air cells (but most do go on to hatch just fine anyways). Sometimes tracking can be a little behind so hopefully you'll get them at least by tomorrow. If not, just incubate them for a week-week and a half and try to candle. Look for a dark mass and/or movement. I know quail eggs are a little hard to candle but you can usually see something going on in them.

I never read anything about letting eggs settle 24 hours before putting in the incubator. Maybe that's what went wrong with my hatch. I put in 24 and only hatched 5. It was very disappointing but it's a good lesson to learn. It was my first hatch and I'm happy with my little 5. They are so stinking cute at this age.

spoke to seller and he said he would send them out tuesday so they would be in transit on 4th of july instead of sitting there at the post office and would most likely get to my post office a day after the 4th so things are not looking so bad accept the weather issue.

yeah i figured someone on here would have answer to hot weather shipped eggs thing and sure enough after searching i think i found 2 threads that basically said same thing. as new a chicken owner i learned a ton info on here that i had many questions to. i even teach my neighbor a thing or two about chickens just by reading threads and she has owned chicken pretty much all her life haha.
