I don't think so. I've seen quite a few hatchery birds that you would think would be males or females based on the barring, but are clearly the opposite, (male feathering). It would be nice if it worked! Now, you may be able to make an educated guess, becuase alot of them do grow up and have the correct barring pattern, but you wouldn't be able to be 100%. We will certainly hope that this chick is a girl, but it would be good to post pics of the comb to be sure at a older age.

Yes, and it can be accurately used, if you are careful in your breeding.

*At 8 weeks, you should be able to tell them apart. Brown Leghorn = White earlobes, Welsummer = Red earlobes.
