newbie needing help!

Sorry you lost a Bird.....

Depending on how much other things your feeding your Birds? Most of these things can be prevented......Lots of these so called treats are actually causing lots of health problems......Chickens do best on a balanced diet of age appropriate feed....Minimum treats/scraps.....Meaning 5% of daily ration...1 Tablespoon per Bird a day, if that?

Best of luck.....

Cheers!

Ok. I lost another one, and this time it was FAST. She went to roost normally when I locked everyone up for the night. In the morning when I let everyone out, she was almost gone. I went in to set up a warm place and get electrolytes- but by the time I returned, she was dead.

I couldn't find any one local to call me back about sending her for a necropsy. I tried.

So, I cleaned out ALL the bedding and nest boxes. I disinfected everything and put new bedding in. I noticed the chickens shaking their heads quite a bit, so I sprayed everyone down with a lice/mite treatment and then locked them up for the evening.

Everyone was looking okay today, but still shaking their heads. I did not find any evidence of mites, but I may have seen lice by one hens vent. I'm not positive, because honestly- it looked like poop to me. I cleaned her and sprayed her well.

I am at a loss. I haven't fed them anything but their feed this week.

Any ideas?

A bit graphic, but these are this mornings poos that looked a bit odd to me. The others looked normal.

I also noticed some small black dots on their combs, but after searching on here it looks more like they are just from pecking. They seem to be teenagers, sorting out pecking order and roost spots all the time.

A few of them have really bright red combs, and others are rather pale. Because of their age, I had believed that some were just closer to POL.

It looked like maybe this ones ear muffs(?) were getting a bit darker too. It's hard with an Easter egger though, no two coats seem to be the same.
