Newbie Quail Questions

That might work.

I usually move my quail from the run to the hutch and lock it up. No predators can get inside of it. (2 locks)

And I know I am responding late: But, I highly recommend the coturnix. What everyone else said is 100% spot on.

Easy to care for, friendly, good pets, good layers, good meat birds.

Hope you enjoy your future quails :D

So sounds like all the quail types are good for a newbie?;)
Well, If I got bobs, can I release them on our property? We got quite a few bobs around that are wild.
Thank you to all! This is fun!:ya
Actually, releasing them would be great!! I'm not sure how many know this, but Bobs are on the "Threatened Species" list, not "Endangered" yet, but their numbers are declining yearly in the wild. If we could help the Bobwhite flourish again, we may not lose them all. You have to understand, Bobwhites are prey to everything from ant colonies to humans, so they get picked off by just about every meat eater there is. And as people destroy what's left of their natural environment, grasses tall enough to hide in, the weeds they eat, water to drink, etc., we are slowly losing this beautiful and wonderful bird. Yes, they are delicious, that is a fact. But before we lose them, we need to replenish this awesome Quail, the Bobwhite. They can use all the help they can get!!
