Good afternoon all. I am approaching the next phase with my quail. My quail have just started laying eggs. I want to know how many roosters to keep around? Some say it should be 3 hens per rooster and other say 5 to 1. Does it matter? Also, should I keep the biggest rooters? I have one rooster who is huge but beats on the other roosters. Should that stop with less competition around?

How many will depend on the roo his self.

In the past I had a roo that was a timid breeder and about 3 hens was all he would cover well.

Another roo was very aggessive breeder 10 hens wasn't enough for him.

Keep the largest roo in with 5 hens see how breeding goes. If he beats up on other males now it may get worse as Mating intenifies.

And if you are just keeping them for eggs and don't plan to hatch out new ones, you don't need any males at all.
