Newbie trying to identify and sex adolecents

I have to agree with the folks who said the white silkies look like boys and the buffs look like girls, and the barred/bearded one looks like a girl. No idea about the other one!

I would say #4 is a roo, though the comb and face isn't too red. In the picture of the Buff Silkies, you can see the saddle feathers on him, and he carries himself like a roo. I would expect crowing to happen fairly soon.

LOL! So my fears have come true. So much for attempting to have a hen house full of girls! It's funny, I have no idea how to sex chickens, but I told hubby that I thought that the "Americauna" (if it is that) was a roo and that one of the white silkies was a roo. Just by their personality. I really appreciate the input from all of you, and value your opinions. I am grateful to have found this site!

Does that change anyones opinion? Or are we still decided that:
The small possible barred rock/possible EE is a female
One of the buff chickens could be a female
The whites and the possible Americauna are male

Don't laugh, I had no idea what a pullet was, had to google it. And didn't know what an EE was either. Boy oh boy - I am slowly becoming a graduate of chicken school!

One of those white Silkies is definately a roo - it has clear streamers coming from the crest. Silkies are difficult to sex at the best of times and you often can't tell until they crow or lay an egg.

The Barred Rock pullet is a girl, but not pure Barred Rock because BR don't have feathered legs.

"Ameraucana" is definately a boy, very clear saddle feathers.

I know, another question "what are saddle feathers"? Also, is there a sticky with "phrases" for newbies. (Things like saddle feathers, sex linked, EE etc)

Your red colored ee - i can see the droopy saddle feathers now. It's a boy.

Saddle feathers are exactly where the saddle would be - if you were to put a saddle on a chicken.

You can see how they droop down and to the sides on your red/orange ee. When he gets older, this will be much more exaggerated and very pretty. On the girls, the feathers are more straight and organized. Another thing about the mail is his saddle and hackle feathers are pointed if you look closely.

I also agree that your "barred rock" is a mix of something, but is very pretty. I've never seen a barred ee before, but i sure haven't seen everything yet.

That isn't a Barred Rock/EE, it's almost certainly a Cuckoo Marans/EE!! The legs are feathered. I'm mystified about the rosecomb, though, because it's not pea, not single- it's clearly rose, which would indicate some Dominique, by the look of her face...She's a mystery! She will lay either a medium to caramel brown or an olive egg. Keep us updated!

That red one is a bit of a mystery, too. It doesn't look like it has a pea comb or green/ slate legs or a muff or beard. I know EE's are mutts, but shouldn't it have at least one of those characteristics to indicate it's got a blue/green egg gene in it somewhere? Tell me if I'm wrong - I'm new to this - but to me it just looks like a barnyard mix, maybe with some Production Red/ Sex link or something.

The wee barred one came from a very sweet old Italian Farmer who said "She will lay you really nice, nice, pretty eggs". Funny, he was the only one who I thought was telling me the truth. LOL! Always trust your gut! The EE (or whatever it is) always seemed male to me. I would like to know if he is EE or has Americauna in him, he was sold to me as an Americauna - but I agree, he looks odd.
