Hi, I've been lurking for a few days and felt it was time to jump in. This site is great. Everything you need to know about a chicken is here. I'll give you a little info about our set-up and maybe you can tell me how much trouble I'm in. About two months ago, after the Martha Stewart Show featuring MyPetChicken, my wife decided she wanted some chickens on the farm. She asked me to build her a coop for three chickens. Well, I'm nobody's fool and I know that three chickens will turn into many more in a short time so I built a coop that would comfortably house about twentyfive birds. I then constructed a 16'x16' totally enclosed run for her. So far, so good. She then ordered her chicks. Eight of them (see what I mean). Then she picked up four Guinea keets. At this point she swears that she doesn't want any more, she's very happy with what she has. Then, I look around at the birds and, as pretty as they are, I start thinking that this place needs is a Silkie or two because all of the other birds look "normal". My wife said "No, I like what we have now". What? I couldn't believe my ears. I mean, come on, you have to have a Silkie or two. Finally she says "Go ahead, I guess it will be OK". Here's where it starts getting ugly. My wife is out of town for a week and I finally located some silkies. I have my mind made up to get some buff colored ones. Before I even leave the house, I know I'm going to push my luck and get four of them. I convince myself that I'll be able to smooth it over with her. When I go to the place with the Silkies, I realized that I wasn't clear that I was looking for Buffs that were about three months old. She didn't have any. What she did have were Buff chicks ranging in age from one to three weeks old. So, I said "Let's take a look at what you have". That's when the room began to spin. Fever, chills, the shakes, you name it. I must have blacked out or something. That's the only explanation I can think of because when I got back in the truck, I realized that I had one black, one splash and five buff Silkies sitting in the carrier next to me. I'm pretty sure that I'll be in trouble with my wife when she returns. The only question is.......How much trouble??
