Hello everyone! My name is Melissa, and I hail from northern Ontario. I'm in the process of building a coop (for the spring) and landed upon this wonderful site while doing some research.

I'm mostly struggling on what breed of chickens to get... where I live it can absolutely get as cold as -40C in the winter, and I'm hoping to get an heirloom breed.

Off to check around the site! Please feel free to offer any info and/or tips

from Ohio. So glad you joined. There are some breeds that are cold hardy. I would go with the ones don't have single combs. They tend to get frostbite in cold climates. Good luck.

I've heard that Chanteclers, Dominiques and Faverolles are very cold hardy.
