Hey Folks
Just built my first coop and have 10 hens, I picked them up on Saturday and a couple have started to lay but from what Ive read it may take them a couple of days to get over the 1hr here. Im a beekeeper as well and we seem to go through a lot of eggs so figured we might as well have hens.
the first night after finishing my coop I went to check and found that a raccoon had started to chew the outer screen door i made. Luckly she had caught her foot between the door and casing where the hinges are and I was able to administer a mild sedative, she probably won't wake up and if she does she will have a pounding headache. I now have electric fence around the coop attached to the horse fencing so lots of power flowing through it now.
great site and hope to learn lots from those here
