I know there are a lot of us hatching this weekend. How's it going for everyone?

Out of my 15 viable eggs, I have 6 chickies in the brooder and 5 are sitting still pipped in the bator. It's my official day 21. I should have 7 chickies, but I lost my first hatched, Myra.

She just wasn't cut out for chickenhood. I won't tell my best friend Myra that her namesake didn't make it. I'll just be naming another one of them Myra.

Just wanted to say that there is a definite learning curve with incubating eggs. Even the pros don't always have a good hatch, even when they know exactly what they're doing, even when they've done it 100 times. So many factors must come together, even the health of the breeding parents. If you didn't do great this time, please don't give up!

I think we all deserve a big pat on the back. It takes guts to even attempt to bring these fuzzbutts into the world. It's definately full of its ups and downs! I'm so glad that nobody's giving up so we can take over the world one chicken at a time.

My hatch has been going since Friday and I'm ready for everyone to hurry up and hatch out so I can start a new hatch too. 8 in the brooder minus Myra

and six eggs to go.

So here are my numbers:
26 eggs
didn't candle
5 hatched
1 zipped but needed help coming out we'll see if he makes it, but he is on about 6 hours now so maybe, we'll see.
so 6 alive
2 pipped but didn't zip or hatch, died in shell.
broke open the others here are the results
8 dead in shell fully formed or almost fully formed
1 I killed when checking

3 quit at embryo stage
6 infertiles or scrambled yolks with no embryo
sooo . . . 30% ?
Better than I expected . . . not as good as I hoped for.
New batch going in tonight, this time I will:
1. candle
2. buy a hygrometer by hatch time
3. poor myself a glass of wine, toast my new babies and second hatches!

oooo i entered day 18 today hopefull i end up with 5 lil chickies by the end of the week scince 2 were infertile
