Newbies and disease

I have read that we should isolate new chicks/chickens for 2 weeks or a month before introducing them to the flock. Does everyone do this? I know that one BYCer isolated birds and her flock STILL got sick!
What is your experience with this? I plan to get 2 new birds from a lady near me.

It doesn't always prevent your flock from getting sick, but it dramatically decreases the chance of them getting sick. Better safe than sorry
