My first pass at it. I build dollhouses, and this is not like a dollhouse!! First a dollhouse usually comes with all of the pieces cut, I have not power tools except a drill, so I had the guys at home depot do it, and when I got home, well the sides were way off!!! So I hand sawed a few replacement pieces with scrap, so one side is short, but I use that gap to sweep the litter out of the coop. That's the side the nest will go on anyway. I have no nest yet, I'd like to build on for the outside but don't know how. I had to add the plastic lattice to keep one determined dog out. The roost is in place and the ramp, and they use it. I painted the floor. There are two front "windows" and a side vent, plus the space between the walls and the roof. i'm having a hard time finding small windows for the front. I have some extra siding from my house that I will put on, because I decided I don't like the paint, and plenty of left over shingles. At some point I'll figure out how to put molding on to give it a more professional look, and find small window boxes.

This is the door that opens so I can get in.

There is wood on three sides, because I'm more worried about my dogs than anything else.

You're doing great with no tools! Heck, mine's not much better and I had a ton of power tools LOL.

Two questions:

#1 Do you have German Shepherds? I saw your alias and wondered... I have a male and a female.

#2 Is that green plastic "wire"? If it is, it will not keep a GSD or other large breed out of the coop. My neighbors 125# bloodhound ripped the 2x3 welded wire off my coop like it wasn't even there. Ugh. Just something to think about if you have big animals roaming about.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. Hand sawing is better than weight lifting

What a workout.

I have five shepherds, two and a half are show dogs, three are herding dogs and one I'm raising for my mother. One is basically a guard dog, as with that mentality, he's not safe around small animals. His name is Chase:)

I'm doing away with the green plastic wire, just something I have left over from another project. I put the plastic lattice up in front of it, but I'm not even sure about that. I relocated the dogs to the garage, those crazy german shepherds. Their kennels are in the same yard, so I have only left one of the sheep herders in the kennel back there with them. Figured he's less likely to go after them. He never so much as goes near the coop when we are out. When the chicks are bigger, and can't slip through the holes, I have some welded wire I'll put behind the lattice. or I'm thinking the cattle panel with the lattice on top?

I am so impressed. When we first got our baby chicks I had a fantasy of the family working together to build a coop. Well, let's just say that didn't happen! We're not very handy. Anyway, we ended up buying a coop, but I wish we had tried like you did- good job!

I was building my coop today myself, I have every single power tool I could fit in the cart...and still I'm not 100% even or level:oops: so do not feel bad. It's practical and the chicks look happy!!
