I have been waiting patiently for my newborn chicks to arrive. I was so happy when I went to my coop and heard the little peeps. I was over joyed. However, when I got a closer look at the chick it looked like it did not have a skull and its brains were exposed only covered by a thin membrane. Is this usual and should I take this deformed chick out of the coop?
Was it hatched like that or do you think it could have been pecked. If the broody hen is in a coop with other chickens, it's possible it was severely pecked. I barely saved ones life in time before they killed it. It's head was badly pecked. It lived and I cannot tell her from the others. Just a thought
