Hey all my name is Jamie and I'm from a small town in Southern Florida. Real estate Broker by trade....future farmer goals for life though πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ™‚πŸ˜πŸ₯°πŸ™
A quick story on how i became a chicken mom
I had some tenants next door in my grandmother's old place who were moving and didn't want to take the chickens so voila we created a coop in a hurry and the lessons began.
This was back in 2023
I would always love the idea of having chickens as I was allergic to egg yolks and whites and always wondered if I raised my own chickens if that problem would go away...and to no surprise it did πŸ™β€οΈ
I will say....I never thought I could be as obsessed with a bird as my friends were. However that quickly changed when one of my friendliest chickens got sick.
About 2 months ago my stepson and wife and grandbabies moved in to homestead and to have the ability for mom to stay home and homeschool the kids as well. So I knew I needed to step up the chicken game as we only had 6 hens. I found a nurture right 360 on marketplace and started my journey. We now have 4 chix ranging from less than a day old to 1 month. I lost 2 others in between as I thought they were cold and overheated them in a span of 90 mins πŸ˜•
I knew then how much I was now an obsessed chicken person as I cried and went hard into research to never make that mistake again. Since then it's been fun trying to figure out sex and breed as we are blended for sure. I am excited to learn more and more and grow our flock. So happy to be here 😍😍😍

Welcome to BYC!

None of us chicken parents are perfect, so you are in good company. I know most of us are just striving to be better, and that's the important part!

Good job on your hatch and stepping up your chicken game! I wish you well on your homesteading journey also! If you feel like posting pictures here, we love guessing breeds and genders (and pictures in general), but there's also the Breed & Gender Forum, too, if you want to post there for more opinions.

Welcome to BackYard Chickens!
