Newcastle in Utah and California

The USDA and CDFA are already in contact with said BirdMart, this is their response. (I think it's massively irresponsible to continue the shows, especially the March 31one *in San Mateo* so I'm not giving them much benefit of the doubt right now.

Ncals just trying to do its best in getting the word out I surmise. Very little info, causes a lot of reaction and speculation.
I am VERY concerned that UC Davis has it on their website. Adobe is VERY close to me. The Los Gatos office (which has the statement on their Facebook page) is my local avian vet and is walking distance from my work.

Yeah seriously what’s the big deal in shutting down movement of birds in CA? Can’t be policed? Politics?

I’m not trying to seem disagreeable but did this *possible* personnot see the directive not to travel with birds? Wish I was a fly on the wall.
Just because someone handsout a flyer or posts a note in the web does not communication make I suppose. A hole in the process. About $150M spent so far.

Oh it is entirely possible the vendor did it out of ignorance of the travel ban, not as a knowing quarantine violation.

Motive aside, it is still relavent as a very possible if not probable vector given the location and timing.

However BirdMart is absolutely at least partially at fault for not contacting the vendor about the travel ban and telling them not to come. As a many-times-a-year show, they have NO excuse for not knowing SoCal is quarantined.

(I know the event fairly well, and the people who run it, and they are about profit above all. I can easily see them deciding they'd rather have the table fee and to heck with the risk. Given their response was "no poultry" for future shows, instead of "hold off on the show", it seems even more probable that is what happened. But, I am fully aware I am biased against this particular event.)
