NICE hen! More pics for me too! I wanna see her colors in the daylight!
I trim beaks with a dog nail clipper, but you can use wire cutters or finger nail clippers or...??
You just snip off the tip a little at a time so not to get too much and make them bleed. I use Kelly to help hold birds while I do it, or I hold them gently between my knees or wrapped in a towel.

shes cute. have any more pics? and you will like your bluegrass seramas if you look in my sig line you can see the link to the thread where i have pics of the ones i got from her and the roo is AMAZING! and i love the hens personality and shes adorable too

Thanks for the advice. I wrapped them in a thin towel and cuddled them and talked to them a little first and they just cooed to me so sweet. There was just that curved tip that needed to go and I used toenail clippers and it worked perfectly, then I filed it just a little to be sure there weren't any snags left.....I hate snags on my nails don't you?

I think I'll add one of those parrot perches to the cage but a small one tied firmly against the side that isn't where they will be able to roost on it cause they're cement with sand and would hurt their feet I think. I've watched these rub their beak on the wire floor so I know they would like to have a place to rub their beak on.

I haven't kept chickens in a cage before so I'm trying to find the best ways to clean the wire. I know they're just going to poop again but I keep it pretty clean and was wondering if I could put a coating on the wire that would be easier to scrub the dried poop off and secondly to keep the wire from rusting eventually. Any suggestions? There is a paint on coating that is rubbery made for the handles of tools. After it's totally dry and I could wash it down, there shouldn't be anything left that's toxic and it would be nicer than wire. My brother in law made this cage but the next one will have coated wire on the bottom, so much easier to clean.

Here's one of the trio.......I asked them to line up for a family picture.

Here is Diamond. I named her for one of my all time favorite little hens, she has the same coloring. What is this color?

They were all a little ragged when they got here but it won't be long before I have them shined up and in perfect feather.

That is a real nice trio you got there. I think the parrot perches will help them greatly....I had done that with some of my breeders in cages also. I had no ill effects from the cement. thanks for sharing the pics!

They look a lot better with the beaks trimmed. I'll have to keep an eye on them now. Dovey had the most that needed trimmed off. They were all very good to be handled but not real friendly yet, I still have to catch them to hold them.
