Newly hatched chick has something wrong with his eyes!

Odd that the second one seemed OK and now has it's eyes closed. What do you have in their pen? Pine shavings? Any chance there is something that could be irritating their eyes?

Just trying to brain storm what it could be aside from a genetic condition or illness.

Poor little chickies. I hope they recover.
Ooo, good point. You wouldn't happen to be using cedar shavings would you?
Otherwise, its probably something developed form hatching, or what @sourland suggested.

@EggSighted4Life Thank you for your reply! They were hatching eggs I ordered off eBay. One batch of Bielefelders and one batch of BLRW. Actually I think he hatched on day 22. So incubation temp might have been a little low. I think I had some cold spots in the incubator.

Since you noticed this eye abnormality immediately after hatching, I am pretty comfortable assuming it's a genetic issue, not bacterial.
Ok great! That makes me feel better! Thank you for that and the advice on how to care for him in the future!

@ChicNmom @Weeg they are on pine shavings! Not cedar. I will take those out ans see if it helps!! None of the other chicks are experiencing any problems but you never know! Thank you!!

I have fostered a few kittens and from time to time you need to help their eyes get open. Im not sure but maybe you could just open an eye for it? Some times you have to use a little force so carefully of course.. maybe im wrong, maybe this never happens to chickens....,?

No.

Are these chicks in a warm, not too hot, brooder with clean water?
