Newly Hatched Chicks- how to "teach" them to eat?

Oh when I say an 11 inch drop or so I mean there is a ladder that slants down from hen house to pen floor. I was reading and it seemed like I said just drop off.

If you ever need to teach a chick how to eat, or where to eat, just tap your fingers on the ground and it will come running over and start pecking. That is basically how a hen teaches her chick. It is the pecking sound not the sight that gets them eating because a blind chick will react the same way as one that is full sighted.
