We have free range chickens and have a hen sitting on a clutch. My worry is, will the chicks be ok. I assume that the hen will take care of them and protect them, but we are still pretty new to the chicken world. This is her first time and i do not know what kind of mother she will be. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks

Do you have a seperate shelter that you can put her & the nest in? The other hens might harm the chicks, and if you have hawks like we do- the chicks will get picked off one by one...

I use milk crates filled with hay for the nest boxes. If someone gets broody- I just move the whole thing into a brooder coop. Haven't had any complaints from the hens yet- and we still have all of the chicks.

Congrats on the broody!Good luck!
