Hi everyone, I'm Lisa and have just recently started hatching eggs for our homestead. My current batch is hatching now and I have one chick with a red pouch that I'm sure should be inside. Is there anything I can do? The chick is acting perfectly fine other wise, it's sad. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

is it like a dark red? or yellow? is it kinda attached to his 'belly button' area? if so it could just be the unabsorbed yolk. jus leave it. it will reabsorb eventually.

If it isn't yellow then it is it's "insides" hanging on the "outside". I have tried other's suggestions and tried to gently "tuck" them back inside. Best of luck.....never worked for me.

I have had a few chicks that hatch with this problem. A lovely red pouch on the outside of the abdomen that looks as if it is part of their intestines. The few times that I have had this happen I have just left the chick alone and it eventually dried up and fell off in the end. I examined the piece that fell off and I believe it was just some leftover unabsorbed eggs sack or umbilical cord.

Hope this helps,
Tamsen.

Thanks for all the help! I'm going to leave them alone for now. In the morning I'll let everyone know how they are and try to get some pictures. Thanks again (fingers crossed for the remaining eggs)
