I have a beloved orpington who has been laying for about two weeks. Today she spend a good deal of time sitting on and rearranging the fake eggs in the nesting box. I waited until she was done laying, removed that egg and then took her out of the box. She ate, walked around, chatted with the other chicken and then went back in. Is she sick? Broody? Can they go broody this fast? I'm a new chicken mom. Worried. Thanks for any insight.

It's possible. I've had some go broody very soon after starting to lay. I wouldn't be positive yet though, watch her for a few more days and see how she acts.
