For those of you who think you might be rationalizing your children's or grandchildren's behavior:

"Police in Fort Myers, Fla. were called this spring to Royal Palm Exceptional School, where they arrested an 8-year-old boy (name deleted to protect the "innocent"). He was charged with punching a teacher in the face, leaving several bruises. "He gets very upset, and he loves to hit," his grandmother told a TV reporter. "If he was overpowering her that much, I feel like she shouldn't be in that line of work."

This was in our paper this morning.

If my child did that, she would think her day had been a breeze up to that point!

Our six-year-old had a kindergarten classmate over one recent afternoon. The kid had a temper tantrum in a store because we wouldn't buy her a scarf she wanted, then the shopkeeper caught her trying to shoplift a candybar and she threw it at him. The kid's mother thought it was funny when my wife told her.

Those are the kids that grow up to think the world owes them something and their parents spend a lifetime giving giving giving until they are broke - emotionally and financially.

Who's fault is it? The parents. They create the monsters then wonder why no one wants to be around them or their kids.

People need a license in most places to own a dog but they are allowed to spawn at will and raise their children with no repsect for anyone including themselves and no idea of bouderies and discipline. It is a form of child abuse. Like it or not.

I believe in a healthy fear of respect and I do spank when needed.

I agree Miss Prissy. The way kids act in my dance class is mind blowing sometimes. I ask them if they listen to their teacher at school and they say yes, so I tell them that I am a teacher too and they need to have the same respect. I don't think their parents explain that to them.

One of the milestones of my adolescent life was the time I mouthed off to my mother without realizing that my dad was standing behind me. For years, there was a dent in our refrigerator shaped like my head.

Teachers shouldn't be in that line of work. Teachers should not be required to work as law enforcement or warden!

I can't even imagine what my folks would have done if I had bitten an adult (unless I was being abducted or something).
