Next Door Neighbor's Dog, Please Help

I would lay a few steel traps for the dog (mb 550's will hold but not damage in the event of bycatch) and take care of the problem in hurry. I started trapping this past season and catching stray/lost dogs was very easy to do.
Good luck

If you decide to shot the dog, don't run out to try to scare it or catch while your dad looks for the gun. Have your dad get the gun while you stay in the house, and then he'll have a chance to shoot the dog.

Too bad for the dog, but even if you took it to the pound, and they didn't claim it (likely), it would be put down anyway.

I'm sorry... but that is repulsive. The dog is out of control and not trained. He is doing what come naturally to him. DOG ARE SUPPOSED TO KILL CHICKENS. IT IS 100% THE NEIGHBORS FAULT FOR LETTING THIS GET SO OUT OF HAND. I guess if you have to shoot it that's okay, but don't poison him. That's cruel, and he hasn't done anything that he's not designed to do. Poisoning him would make him die a slow and agonizing death that he doesn't deserve. If you have an AC unit around then call them and let them catch him. Have the evidence ready, and be the good guy.

I really hope I haven't offended anyone, that was not my intend at all, I just think that there might be a step in between talking to the neighbors and shooting him

I'm sorry....I don't believe that it is natural for most dogs to rip down doors and coops. I've only known one dog in all my life that had that level of destruction and he took the long walk. This sounds like a dog that is beyond anyone's control, even its owner.

SSS all the way!

If you cannot seem to catch it in the act quickly enough to shoot it, then I hold with the poison idea. It suffers? Sorry, beyond caring about a suffering dog in this case....especially one that is so wild that it causes this level of wholesale destruction to property and animal life.

It doesn't sound like there is much hope for this dog. I certainly would have killed it by now.

If you can't shoot it while it's in the process of killing your birds, then you have to switch tactics.

DOG ARE SUPPOSED TO KILL CHICKENS.

I disagree wholeheartedly. Maybe some are bred for that kind of thing, but many dogs are bred to GUARD livestock (chickens included). Not all dogs are SUPPOSED to kill chickens.
My neighbor's boxer mix has had a couple of young birds that flew out of my yard...and I worried some about her digging into my yard to get more birds. The neighbor finally said that he thinks his dog is AFRAID of my Chow dog is why she hasn't made much effort to break into my yard. I have a lot of faith in my Chow dog as the protector of everything that is on this property, birds included.
Perhaps the OP needs a livestock guardian dog to help with future problems. A LGD of any breed would need training and socializing to your flock, so it's too late to get one to stop this killer dog, but it might save the next flock.
