i have another old step ladder that is falling apart---i considered making it into a perch, but one step fell off completely, and another broke halfway off. I think hubby might just burn what's left in the wood furnace---LOL!
I made my roost from a long 2x3 board (cut in 4 ft lengths) that i had left from when we built our addition on our house. i used up whatever scrap lumber i could in the coop project---nest boxes, roost, the steps up to the door, even the doors themselves are leftover pieces of plywood. I should post some interior pics too.
The roost: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/23618_101_0102.jpg
It is hinged so it can be propped up, then the wire contraction over the dropping pit can be propped open too for cleaning out underneath: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/23618_101_0730.jpg
The nest boxes ( i made one on the floor too for the silkies): https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/23618_101_0103.jpg
View looking through the people door (the whitish chicken is an EE). The nest boxes are on the right, and the roost is on the left. There are two hanging feeders, and one hanging waterer. I have another hanging waterer outside under the roof overhang. The metal can holds a bag or two of feed. I also made a cute little storage cupboard in the corner to keep supplies like bags of oyster-shell grit, spare fly-papers, etc:
