Abby, that is one nice hen house! Puts mine to shame, but then, that's not hard, lol. Cool idea with the ladder, I wish the wooden ladder we had was shorter, it would be too tall to stand in our pen, whenever the pen gets built. Maybe if we hung the step side across the pen the chickens would like it. The ladder is no longer safe for it's original use so finding something else to do with it would be cool.

Those are some cute little chicks too! I love the contrast of color with the perky tails.

I so want to order chicks to sell at Milford but if I didn't sell them all Dan would have a mental meltdown!

We already have too many chickens for our coop space so we can't keep more. Even if they hardly spend any time in the coop.

i put a ton of planning and work into my coop. It took me 6 months to build start to finish---i worked on it in between the rest of my life! LOL My supervisor from work GAVE me the vynil siding that they took off their porch this summer. I was thrilled---it was just what i wanted to put on my coop and made it look nice! We live by the main road so we work hard to keep our place looking nice.

i actually was not going to put wire mesh over top of the run, but a month ago, hubby saw hawks circling high in the sky and insisted i cover the run. So then i had to figure out how i could do it. The ladder IS an old rickity thing, no longer safe to stand on.......so it made a workable solution for how to support the wire in the center! Looks a little funny to me, but the chickens don't care!

Here is a link to the Snapfish album i made with all the building photos i took of my coop project: http://www2.snapfish.com/thumbnailshare/AlbumID=412828007/a=51273361_51273361/otsc=SHR/otsi=SALBlink/COBRAND_NAME=snapfish/
I
took a ton of pics so i could look back and see exactly how i put things together.

Congrats! The first time is so exciting. I did my first hatch in May. Nothing quite like it!

Abby, I would look at your album on snapfish but I'm on a dial-up connection here and sites like that take forever to load

I do love the look of your coop though. Ours just has plywood for siding so it's not very exciting. Just a rectangular red building with a slant roof. It was here when we moved in so we just fixed it up and moved in the chickens. It was really falling apart when we first scoped it out. Big hole in the floor and the walls were crumbling. We just put down a new floor and put up new plywood to replace the sections of wall that were no longer sound. Then we replaced the window because Dan got an awesome deal on one at Home Depot. The window was one that had been custom ordered but when it came into the store the people who ordered it didn't want it anymore. It's a nice full storm window with the screen and glass panels. We put it on backwards so we can open and close it from outside the coop. It worked out great! The roof on the coop still needs to be repaired. The roof plywood is separating up from the frame in one corner. It still keeps out the weather but it looks bad. I don't think the chickens care though and our coop isn't visible from the road so it can wait.

They're from Bobbi Porto.

My DH wants to know why they're temporarily occupying the living room. He will be assimilated soon.

Question if you don't mind ?

Did you get the chicks from him personally or someone in the Mass area ??
