I have never owned a duck before and I am really interested in getting a couple. I was just wondering if there is a breed of duck that is docile and easily tamed?

Some are calmer than others. Usually on sites that sell waterfowl, they’ll give you a little blurb about each breed. One of them, maybe Metzer? Has a comparison chart. Generally, the larger ones are calmer, and the closer to hatch you meet them, the more attached they are to you. Just sweeping generalizations there. Others will have more specific information.

My first runner is by far the most tolerant of my kids. Duck the runner duck is picked up and held multiple times a day, and she’s absolutely fine with it.

I think a big reason Duck is so sweet is because of all our ducks she’s been handled the most. So individual personalities are a factor as well as how they are raised.

Our friendliest waterfowl are the geese hands down. They greet us every time they see us. The male Buff and Toulouse are friendliest. Our African (that I think is probably Brow Chinese but I’m not sure) is friendly but quite loud and doesn’t particularly like being held.

This. I've encountered wild ducks that are friendlier than some pet ducks., while the friendliest duck I've ever encountered was a random mutt (also some of the friendliest cats and dogs I've ever known were also mutts).

Breed wise, Welsh Harlequins are fairly clam and tolerant (I love mine) and Pekins can be quite friendly (used to have some that would come by and visit at my old house). Most any duck can be loving and friendly if you put in the time and treat them well.

I would not recommend trying to tame a wild duck, rather buy a domestic duck from a reputable farm. Also get at least two, possibly three ducks. They need to be part of a flock and need companionship when you are not around or awake.

I like the Buff Orpington Ducks (yes it is a real breed of duck)

Please don’t get just one duck though. They are flock animals and need the companionship of others of their species. I have RunnersBuffs and Muscovy’s and of those 3 Muscy’s are calmest and friendliest drakes are very large though so if if you don’t want a large breed I’d look at another breed

My buddys muscovies pur and come right to you looking for pettings. Even without treats

The are so sweet. Just weird looking
