I’m sorry to hear about Shaggy. I do wonder about seizures. Are you using any artificial light at night? Wondering g if the flickering (even if you can’t see it) might be triggering
something.

I’d probably give the aspirin therapy a try if he were mine.

I have a solar charging mosquito zapper nearby, about 8 feet away from the coop, but I think that LED light is too weak to reach him. And it doesn’t look like a seizure. He’s unconscious. But I will take that light away tonight.

The aspirin therapy might also help. Thank you.

Update:

  1. I changed his bamboo bedding. I think the scenario started when I placed that inside his coop. I replaced it with his favourite flat rock that he love to perch on. He seems happy to have it inside.
  2. Removed the mosquito zapper.
  3. I failed to get some Aspirin because the pharmacy requires me to show a prescription.

Update:
I patiently observed him tonight. I think his having problem getting his sleeping position. When he sleeps while perching, his having trouble breathing. I think something is blocking his airway because of his heavy comb. That’s when he starts to jump and gasp. He can breathe well while laying down on his side. I think my Instagram friend @Saaniya posted about that before. I just can see the thread anymore.

Yes, I need to find someone who can ASAP.

I will relate my experience with a Wyandotte rooster that was prone to the same scary behavior.

The first time I saw this happen, I was just putting my chickens into the coop when he flapped his wings madly and fell off his perch. I grabbed him up, and like you, I panicked, not knowing what to do. He wasn't breathing and his comb was dark. I shook him and he regained consciousness.

Like a human with heart problems, the heart can stop, plunging the victim into a near death experience. A sudden shock or normal movement can start the heart pumping again. I gave my rooster a half a baby aspirin daily for a few months, and when nothing like that episode happened again, I stopped the aspirin. A few months later, I found him dead one morning under his perch.

I don't know for sure what his problem was. But some chickens hatch with genetic defects, and it's likely he had a heart with a congenital defect. Your rooster may also have such a defect.

This exactly happened with my boy tootoo when hes having his giant comb we we're so scared that comb block all airway.i remove that comb and he is all good
