nipple system reservoir tank

for my beer making, i used a plastic spigot with a male threaded part that goes in the bucket while a female nut screws onto it. there's a gasket on the outside of the joint. Somehow I don't feel this would be sufficient for this task however.

On our buckets, we use a pvc slip that screws into the bucket with a substantial washer nut on the inside of the bucket. I seal it all with potable cement.

Sorry to be so dense but by a pvc slip is this what you mean?:

I got this and the female equivalent and intend to put these inside and outside of the bucket screwed together with o-rings and washers to make a tight seal.

Think that would work?

I used them on a 5 gal bucket, once on the side and once on the bottom. Could not make that stop leaking. We even put marine sealant on all the threads and teflon tape and sealed the outside and inside and use o rings. Still leaked... gave that up!

I'm not sure that the male and female pvc fittings fit very tight together so I am not sure if you will get a tight seal. It seems pretty good as long as it does not leak.

@DMRippy: So what is your solution or did you not use a bucket system anymore?

@bellevue: Thanks! We'll experiment and see.

See post #8. I have still used the nipples in a 3 and 5 gallon bucket some, the nipples directly in the bucket don't leak for me. But I have not found a solution for a bucket. I just don't think the plastic is thick enough to seal tight and the curve of the bucket is a problem too. The plastic on a 55 gal drum is a lot thicker and can be threaded. I found a link for a rain barrel if you want to see that.

That's how I did mine pretty much. Except for the O ring part... I used large rubber washers that I bought at True Value.
