Nipple Waterer Training?

I've used the standard red nipples, drinker cups, the Little Giant auto fill fount bowls and now I'm redoing an old system (which has 10 yr old auto fill founts) with the horizontal nipples that Rich sells. So far I like these a lot and the birds went to the first one and started pecking before I even turned on the water. When the water came on they had a party, you would of thought I had filled it with moonshine at a country party. I should have the system finished before the day is over and will post up some pics and a complete review when I'm finished.

Just a quick thing about the horizontal nipples is they have a really neat tapered thread that doesn't leak. I put them in pvc tees with 1/8" threads but I can see how they would screw into the proper size hole in a bucket or jug or just in a pvc pipe as long as the proper size hole is drilled. The tapered threads don't even need Teflon tape and as you tighten them up the threads get bigger and bigger and grip really strong with a super nice fit in whatever you screw them in.

I hate to say I TOLD YOU SO!
But I TOLD YOU SO!!

Please help!? I just installed a nipple style system for my girls and they have had it in the yard for 2 days now. They are not using it and act like they are parched. I got no eggs from any of them today (I am assuming they are stressed out from lack of water) and when I water the plants by them they will stand in the stream of water and drink the little drops left on the chicken wire fence. Have I done something wrong? I have held their beaks up to the nipples and made them drink but still they don't get it. I am worried they will get sick if I don't put the old waterer in the yard for them.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

What type of nipple do you have? How high are they hung? Where is it located in the penn, coop?

We just got our pullets 9 days ago and they've yet to figure out the nipple waterers. So I've had a dish of water in their coop that I have to change about twice a day after they kick all the bedding into it. Every day I tap on the things to show them that water comes out, but even though they see me as The Bringer Of The Food, they don't totally trust me 100% yet. So no takers. I'm very concerned about taking away the water dish, like many have mentioned here, but since we're having a bit of a cool stretch right now, it's probably a good time to try. I'll give it a go tomorrow, since I'll be home all day to keep an eye on them.

As long as you leave the other water in with them they will never learn.

I took the water dish out this morning and felt like such a huge jerk. I apologized to them profusely as I did it. Come on, girls! You're smart enough to figure this out!
