Nipple Waterer Training?

You paid to much, or I am not charging enough - I have twelve for $19.80 including shipping.

I wish I had know that before I bought them. Too late now.

?? How did this happen? There is no way to push the valve all the way out on the 4 that I have. In fact, I just took my spare and tried very hard to push it out and unless I take a hammer to it, it is not coming out. I'm not saying it didn't happen to you, but I am wondering how just so I do not end up with 5 gallons of water on my coop floor.

The high flow nipple http://www.farmtek.com/farm/supplie...ering_systems-ft1_hoses_nipples;pgwc1050.html is in 3 pieces and nothing prevents the plunger from coming out the top if the nipple prong is tapped hard enough. It happens to mine a couple times a week.

REALLY!! What makes you say that?

Nipple parts on inside of bucket after the chickens got a little aggressive.

Something is seriously wrong with the design of nipple Item# WC1050

The three piece, all stainless nipple you are talking about is is Euro Dumb Ass idea. They are a really very well made product but are intended to be inserted into square 3/4" PVC pipe (think three dollar bill).

They are designed to be installed at the factory into the 10' nipple drinker pipe sections that industrial poultry operations assemble into systems hundreds of feet long. At the factory machinery can thread and insert the nipple into the pipe in one operation. The clearance between the pipe and metering pin is so close that the metering pin can not come out so long as the barrel is threaded into the pipe. Actually you can use these nipples in a handmade situation if you use 3/4" round pipe but putting them to gether is a PITA.

All the reasons I never offered them.

But Barry, the owner of FarmTek whom I have known for years, appreciates your business. So long as you don't call with any questions or problems since they have very few farmers answering the phone in the big farm state of Conneticut

I have 2 3-year-old hens in quarantine before they join my existing flock. They kept knocking down or soiling their water almost immediately after I refilled it so I got them a nipple waterer. It took them 10 days to figure it out! Even when it was hot and they'd knocked their other water over, they just couldn't get it. They would see a drop of water on the end of it and delicately drink that without touching the metal tip and learning how to get another drop out! We showed them with our fingers what to do and they'd drink the water off our fingers and off the ground without catching on. I had given up on them, but last night they got it! Who knows what made the difference, but I'm glad to see it.

So glad to read your report, sahagi.
I'm on day 6 with the new nipple waterer, and they still haven't quite got it. One pullet will tap it, but not really get enough water to teach the lesson. I've let their old waterer run dry for a little while and I keep going out and showing them how to push on it. They love the water that drips on the ground, but haven't made the connection yet.
Apparently my young hens are not the brightest bunch. But I'm holding out hope, as I've invested about $20 in this new system. Looking forward to the hot days when I don't have to worry that they've run out of water.
