nipple waterer

I got some on ebay that were terrible quality. They dripped constantly and one even broke in half while I was screwing it in. I got on QC supply and got more and was happy with the quality. The is the waterer I made. I plan on wrapping it in heat rope ( http://www.bigappleherp.com/Big-Apple-Flexible-Heat-Ropes ) in the winter to keep the water flowing. Here is a pic of the one I made. It has a sewer clean out on the top to keep things from falling in it and two small holes drilled up top to let air in. It's made from 4" pvc pipe and is 4ft long so it holds a lot of water.

will definitely check both farmtek and QC... the ones on QC are cheaper, will have to figure out shipping charges. Thanks for all the help.

Check Ebay. I picked up 5 for $6 with free shipping. The rest of the parts I had laying around the shop. Total cost to make the waterer was less than $20.00.
The chicks took to the water within 30 seconds of me leaving the run! I must be their attraction to the color red?

Anyway, here are a few pics of my set up. I have recently painted the PVC black to prevent algae from building inside the PVC and raised it a little higher and also turned the nipples straight down. All advise from this forum!!!

Hi there,
We are from Northern Canada - bought 10 nipples from Ebay and they work like a charm! Paid approximately 17.00 with free shipping and never regretted this purchase at all! Chickens took to them right away outside in the run (used a 5 gallon bucket with 5 nipples) and they are getting clean fresh water continually!!! Coop is totally insulated, so I have the same set up in there. See how it goes this winter as this is our first year with chickens!

i have a few of these and find them to be better quality than the ones from qc supply as these can be disassembled to clean and have a s steel ball in them to help seal

Our first winter too! I found an immersion heater for a bird bath at my local PetSmart in the bargain rack for $5.00. That will go in the pail. I also just ordered an 18' wire heater (also from Ebay) that attaches to the hose leading to the PVC and simply plugs in and is thermostatically controlled. Only uses 120 watts of power too. There should be enough wire left over to wrap around the PVC. Hope it works????
