nipple waterers-nipples placed directly in bucket bottom?

Does anyone have a picture of thier waterers with the nipple setup available to post. We are setting up our coop and are interested in using the nipple method.

Thanks!!!

I don't use nipple waterers YET, I have been thinking about it and I always pictured puting the nipples on the side of teh buckett instead of on the bottom, maybe about an inch or 2 up fromthe very bottom, thatway any sediment in teh water is below the nipples and you can place the buckett anywhere you want for watering and filling. Is there any reason why this wont work?

I got a heated waterer for them and it SUCKS. The red kind that you have to remove and turn upside down to fill. Half the time when you turn it right side up again the top falls off and you're soaked. Ridiculous.

I want to put an aquarium heater into the bucket. Would that work? Anyone done it?

they wont work on their sides as the little plungers in them wouldnt sit right order a few and you will see what i mean
you could put a pvc coupling around them on the inside and glue it down to keep sediment out but as i dump mine every other day i dont get any anyway
try www.qcsupply.com get the 360 degree kind

that's very close to what I use right now (minus the nipples) I cut 1.5" holes about 6" up the bucket and keep the water level just barely below that with a float valve. It's raised up on a concrete block but still get's gross everyday (the holes are big enough to let in debris, I guess just the dust from scratching in the run). I really like the idea of implementing a float valve for refilling

These are excellent, especially the one that folds down. If the walls to the coop will hole the weight of 5 gallons, I am thinking I could mount this right over the feeder and then have the nipple snake down closer to the floor. It would really help the space for food and water in the coop to be very small. Thanks for sharing.

i wouldnt hang them over the feed as some water will drip while the chickens are drinking however i have seen where someone built a feeder that sat in the wall between the studs kinda like a rabbit feeder that would save some space and if space is an issue you could also use a smaller like 3 gal bucket instead of 5 which would put less strain on the studs

I put the poultry nipples straight into the bottom of a bucket and it works fine. No drips at all. I hang it from a rope, and when it gets low, I take it down, scrub it out and add the ACV, then hang it back up and fill it with the hose so there's no need to set the bucket on the ground for filling. It works perfectly and the silver Lowe's buckets seem to block light out so that algae doesn't form inside the bucket.
