No Animal Should EVER Have To Live This Way

I'm so glad this poor baby found his way to your home!

Thank you for taking him in. Whatever happened to him is awful whether by accident or on purpose.

You probably already know but just to say it out loud (so to speak)... putting weight back on a dog in that bad of shape needs to be done very slowly and carefully. It should take months and include physical exercise at the same time. Your vet will obviously talk through all that with you when you take Sampson in.

Isn't it interesting that often the dogs found in the worst conditions are the sweetest and most loving.

Keep us updated on his progress.

I don't know about the docked tail, but the pictures with the boots in the background makes him look like a black and tan coonhound. His head doesn't look like a dobe head.Or is that because of his young age?(i'm not a dobe guy) Will

Thank you all for you kind words. I really would like to believe that this puppy did just run away from home, but I dont know. He has callouses (sp) where is bones have been rubbing his sides, like when he lays down. I know these type of things take a LONG time to happen. I could see him dropping some weight, but those callouses are a different story. It seems to me that he has had to survive this way for some time now. I think that any regular house dog that has been cared for by a loving family would have already passed away by now. The pictures really do not show the horrible sight he is in. Even his private part is very skinny and sunk in. I have never seen a dog look like this in my entire life. Even on his tail, I can see every little bump of bone. Either way, I am going to put up some flyers and I have already called the dog pound to let them know. He is laying on my bed right now sleeping, it feels good to know that he doesnt have to suffer anymore.

Thanks again everyone for all of your nice words, this world needs more people like EVERYONE on here!!!

I know what you mean, but yes he is a doberman. If he wasnt so skinny he would be MUCH leggier than a coonhound and have a bigger barrel type chest. But yes, they do look similar.

My pit mix has callouses, and he's a fatty. Has a nice cushy doggy bed too. Sometimes the calluoses just form on the elbow. He's got them on his hind legs, none on his front??
