I run a BnB on my property, but I also have a large chicken flock and my noisy rooster is waking the guests (and me) up at 4:00 in the morning.
What is everyone's opinions on No Crow Collars.

I agree....I had a bantam Sebright that the collar did not work on despite being the correct size. He was also able to pull it off! I have one on a Silkie roo and it works perfect.

The only "EFFECTIVE" no crow collar is the one you apply with an axe.
In reality "no crow collars" are designed to in effect to throttle or choke a rooster just enough to keep him from crowing without killing him.

In my book anyone who puts a no crow collar on a rooster long term should be prosecuted for first degree animal cruelty.

Completely blocking out the coop by lining the inside with shade cloth actually works, i have done it. I stood in there with the door shut during the day and could see literally nothing. The next day no crow and i have two roosters. I figured it would be bad for my girls egg laying though so i converted an old tv unit to a small blacked out coop which they now go in at night. No crowing until i let them out at 7 am then they crow their hearts out all day lol

This is not how a no-crow collar works. If your rooster is choked, you don't have it on right. The no-crow collar is not designed to choke or throttle the rooster. It simply prevents the rooster from filling up its lungs with one breath enough to power a loud crow. So, it can only fill its lungs enough to make a softer crowing sound.

I would sooner cull a roo from my flock than limit his ability to draw a full breath of air. Try sitting quietly and taking very tiny breaths for 5 minutes. Bet you can't do it. Now, go out and walk briskly around your yard, while limiting yourself to small breaths of air. Wanna spend your life with such limitations????

They don't sit there taking tiny breaths of air. That is silly.

Notice how a rooster crows. They don't just breathe regularly then crow. They stretch their necks, spread their wings to give room to their lungs, then TAKE A VERY DEEP BREATH then let it all out. They don't do that when they're just breathing normally for 5 minutes or 5 hours or 5 days.

The anthropomorphic equivalent to this would be wrapping a guys chest so he can't play the trumpet in forte. So, if you think it is better to cull a roo than preventing him from playing the trumpet in forte, then okay, you got a point.
