No good deed ever goes unpunished!!!

How awful!! I'll have you in my prayers :hugs
Dang ducks are dangerous! I've got quite a slippery muddy slope right in front of my duck palace door, nearly lost my footing today myself. . but I wouldn't have fallen 12 feet. That's brutal!
Your eggs won't go bad for good long while. They may freeze and crack .. Then he it warms up it might make a small mess but nothing is going to stink up the place real soon. I keep my unwashed eggs in a basket inside for sometimes 2 weeks before I get them washed and put in the fridge.
The ducks should be ok outside as far as the cold, predators no-one can be sure.
But it's not worth both of you getting hurt.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Your "no good deed" philosophy is right on target here, too. A couple of years ago, I was trying to offer treats to a brand-new rescue donkey. He was supposed to be a companion to my Jerry, whose sibling had died earlier in the year.

Jerry either didn't want to share treats or just plain hated his new roomie. His response was to take me to the ground (as he would have done to any coyote attacking my ruminants). In a pair of windmilling attacks, he managed to break my pelvis in two places. He, however, failed in two other possibilities -- crushing my skull or destroying any internal organs.

I now have two plates and 12 screws inserted after a trip to see the only doctor in Iowa who performs this particular type of repair -- some three hours from here.

Both the new donkey and Jerry were picked up by the rescue group and rehomed. But, believe me, I will never forget them. It was more than 3 months before I could walk without a walker or wheeling about in a chair. For the next 3 months, I was pretty wobbly and to this day, my balance is still a bit off. Sometimes, I think I want to go one way, and my right hip area chooses a different direction. Life is an adventure -- and you will get lots of mileage out of the story you get to tell.

Merry Christmas anyway!!!

Hi friends,
wanted to do something good for the Duckies and install an additional tarp at their house to protect them better from horizontal rain.
Walked on one of our detached decks to retrieve the tarp the previous owner used for the hot tub, a part of the floor collapsed and I fell down 12 feet! Broke me left leg three times, became hypothermic while crawling back to the house (wife was in the basement) and will spend Christmas in the hospital...

Told my wife not to go and collect the eggs in the duck house and not to herd the ducks in because the ground is muddy and slippery and if she falls and breaks something she will be all alone... But she's afraid that the eggs go bad, will be broken and eaten by the ducks and the ducks will be eaten by the tyrannosaurus lurking around the house at night...
Will eggs go bad in the duck house this time of the year? They might freeze, but only slightly.
Can the Duckies survive a cold night outside their house? - They might be too stubborn to go in by themselves...
And my wife may be too stubborn too...
Aw man. This sucks real bad. I'm sorry you learned about the rotten boards in such a brutal way. I hope your surgery goes OK and wish you a speedy recovery. Hope you have as much a happy Christmas as you can. :hugs

I just read about your accident on your egg thread but just wanted to say Prayers for you for speedy recovery and thanking God you had those ducks to sound the alarm so your wife could find you. Bless your heart.

I would not worry about the eggs but I know if me I would be out there every day getting my ducks up they would not last a night with the predators we have so I just hope your wife will be careful while getting the ducks up every evening. I like what someone posted having her call you after she gets in every evening.
