No good deed ever goes unpunished!!!

Both leg bones, tibia, and fibula are broken at the ankle and the ankle bone itself is broken too. The doc told me that I have a plate with eight screws at my tibia a screw in the fibula and a nail in the ankle bone.:th
Merry Christmas to you too!
NICE! I bet you have what they call a syndesmosis screw that reconnects your tib-fib. It's a long narrow screw. If so, that will probably have to come out after awhile. It goes between the tibia and fibula and provides stability. I do love ortho trauma and miss it sometimes until I think about having to get in the car in the middle of the night and go to the hospital. But, then when you get there it's exhilarating to be able to fix a mess like yours! Nothing like a good old drill and saw in your hands and trays full of plates and screws to get the heart pumping!

14 leg surgeries?! Are you a stunt-woman?
:gigthat would have been a good explanation. Sadly not the case. Kept tearing cartilage, tendons & muscles. They would go in clean it up, be fine for 6 months sometimes less. Finally got a doctor who had tests done and found my knees tracked on the outside of the knee, reconstructed both but left didn't take, had to remove kneecap. Said I was too young (35-36) for replacement.

Oh my, what a horrible day for you! I wish you a quick and uncomplicated recovery!
Will you ever get to go through air port security again? Your gonna set off all the bells and whistles. Are you in a lot of pain?
Yes! I asked the doctor the very same thing and he responded »You should never dare to try, you'll be shot on the spot!«…

Then started laughing really hard and told me that nowadays many people run around with hip-, knee- or other replacements and too many victims of accidents have their bones mended with metal parts so the scanners at the airports are adjusted to this. (makes me think about that »security« again!). And i could always show my "beautiful" scars. :(

Yes, a lot of pain! Imagine wearing a seriously too small boot all the time, this is how my injured leg feels. And there muscle fever in the other leg that has to stem all the weight now and my arms and finally i discovered that my butt touched down on a nail and i have a puncture wound too.
Fortunately i have some good pain medication at hand for the night, slept for almost 18 hours. :) It will be better every day from now on! :):)

You have the same humor as one of my friends who is a trauma surgeon! He immediately told me that i was really lucky and that he'd see a far worse case last week… [description of a weird accident with ugly injuries, requiring a long, bloody surgery]…
And yes, i was lucky: No syndesmosis screw! So all the hardware can stay inside! :yesss:
