No hatching progress, 24 hours. Temperature problem?

the problem you have right now is you don't know what kind of ducks they are so you really dont' know how many days it's going to take for them to hatch.

I'm not sure what type of duck eggs they are. We have runners, pekins, mallards, muscovies, and a few others. I read the following guidelines on Metzer Farms and they hatch a lot of duck eggs!!

Following are the conditions recommended for incubation and hatching:
Incubation Hatching
Day 1 - 25 Day 26 - 28
Temperature 99.5 98.5
Humidity 86 94
Turns Per Day 3 - 7 0

The incubator is home made. It has a light, a fan, a humidity gauge and a temperature gauge. The humidity has been running around 70-75% all day and the 2 eggs have made some progress. They appear to be unzipping...I think. I will go lower the humidity a bit; however, I'm still concerned because this is the first time I've heard about lowering it. Everything, I've read said problems arise when they are too dry!!

Thanks for the input. Do you have any about having to get the eggs out in order to raise the temperature?

I'm not seeing this on there site? this is very generic, it doesn't clarify if this is for an air incubator or if it's a wet bulb, doesn't really give details...

AHHHH it's say for WET BULB, there a difference there!! what are you using???

Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure what wet bulb is. I am using a regular light bulb and a combination temperature/humidity gauge that I bought at Home Depot.

I got the humidity down to about 55%. Both ducks are chirping away! One has made a hole and is sticking his beak out; the other has chipped away at the shell, but has not made the air hole.

I assume the other 3 eggs are muscovies because they have not pipped yet, but are moving around.

I didn't know what you were referring to when you said "safe hole" earlier, but I just looked at your website and saw that this involved poking a hole through the membrane. Should I do this now for the one who has not done it himself? And what do you normally use?

OK keep that humidity at 55 for about 1 day or so, Make a safe hole for all of them except those that already have a hole..What you do is take a needle or tweezers something with a sharp end to it. you want to make a small hole, NO bigger then a pen point, at the Air cell of the shell.

Understand there is two membranes then the shell. Theres one membrane covering the duck then there is another membrane attached to the shell, YOU do NOT want to touch his membrane AT ALL. Just make a tiny hole in the shell but it must be at the Air Cell. Doesn't matter where on the air cell just as long as it's at the air cell. and the Air cell is usually the Bigger end of the shell..

You did say your on day 29 right? if so then yes make them all a safe hole, the safe hole is so that they don't run out of air. If you can see a beak on any of them, leave that guy a alone, give him some more time, understand they will take longer because your temp should up at a steady 100 which means it should be flexuating from 102 to 95. I know homemade ones they flexuate a lot but for the most part the temp stay at an average...

I really appreciate all of your help on this. The 2 ducks hatched overnight...yay! A third has pipped and the other two are moving around.
