No Love 4 Cali?

I grew up there! It is nice but very expensive. Now, I've wanted to live in SLO or Paso Robles for as long as I can remember. Paso Robles is a lot like where I live now.

I live in Riverside county. 5 min. from riverside and 5 min. from colton in a small rural(sp?) area called Reche canyon. You may have heard of RC cuz we are famouse for our wild burroes(sp?) that people hit often. I live approximatly 3min from the riverside/san berdo county line. So we are called colton but in reality we are riverside so who cares. We have 100+ chickens, 2 turkeys, 2 pigs, and 2 horses. We will hopfully be gettin a trio of alpacas soon.

I live here behind the Orange Curtain, and while chickens (although in small numbers) are legal in most of the towns in this county, most people aren't even aware that having them is a possibility. I can't even tell you how many times I've heard, "You can have chickens. . . . HERE?!!!" Even though much of this area is now covered from end to end with homes, it wasn't all that long ago that agriculture was the norm and, thankfully, in most cases the laws have been retained.

So, it would seem that people just don't know that they can, so they don't. I'm doin' my part to educate, tho.

Ma Kettle, nice to see another Riverside-ian here! I was born and raised in So Cal, in Norco (if any of you know where that is). I'm currently living in the neighboring town, and hating life

because of the lack of farm animals. Just moved my 15 baby chicks + 6 turkey poults to my bf's mom's house in unincorporated riverside (she's about 10 mins from us.... rawr), so they're legal. The three pullets currently roaming my backyard are not, however

Yep, chickens are legal here! The law here is that 4 pets are allowed, and chickens are allowed in that count. I have one cat, thus have 3 chickens. My lot isn't large - only 6400 sf - and my neighbors have no problems with my chickens.

I really think that the key is that cities need to recognize that chickens make great pets and as long as the zoning laws allow for the number of chickens that can reasonably exist on a city lot, it should be encouraged.

So, what's in Cypress? Am I missing something good?

It's great to hear there are more chickens in OC!

Some cities in OC have quite liberal chicken laws, while others less so. As I understand it, MOST cities in OC allow them - with the biggest hold outs being the planned communities, of course. Even Newport Beach has pockets where they are allowed. When asked by folks, I always direct them here to research what is allowed in their area: http://www.municode.com/Resources/code_list.asp?stateID=5

Yeah, they live in an older part of Orange off of Tustin. I believe she only has like 3 hens at any given time, but I know she couldn't imagine being without them.

What part of OC are you from?
