Being a teacher, I could do on and on about the behavior of our youth and their parents! Whole other thread! I would not be opposed to buying chicks "behind the counter." But I do agree that I hope they don't do away with them all together. I know the staff at our local tractor supply is getting fed up with the "chick days." I also noticed the large metal gates were up this past weekend.

I really wonder what the big change was from Easter last year to this year???? Why all of the sudden are tons of people buying chicks?! Not that I'm not guilty of it (which I am), but I didn't realize there were so many people interested at the same time we were. We considered buying last year, but didn't have the necessary supplies.

i have 2 girls 11 an 13 an they have known for a long time right from wrong.the biggest problem is respect my kids know what they can an cant do.they have been spanked when needed they take care of all our animals they have 35 chickens 2 ducks 2 goats 4 peacocks an 2 dogs they get home from school an spend 2-3 hrs playing with everyone.they respect all there animals.it is all about how they are raised my girls are not allowed to swear an all there friends think that is crazy.i work in a wharehouse an have been known to swear infront of my kids but they know do as i say not as i do.there are good kids out there but not near as many as there used to be.i feel so bad for teachers these days.

The previous poster who worked at TSC gave us great insight into the explosive growth, the huge increase in chicks being shipped to stores, the overwhelmed staff, the more than doubling of the length of Chick Days, etc.

It appears it simply overwhelmed the "old way" of selling out of bins. The gates are up. Can counter only sales be far behind? Or, will interest wane almost as quickly as it swelled? We shall see. What is clear is this. Things have certainly changed.

i dont think they should stop selling them, i think they should look at WHO they are selling them too! They should have a training program for workers to work with chicks, just like they do at every pet store.

I think more people are buying chicks due to the economy, I know that is 1 reason my dad allowed me to get chickens. His reasoning is that if things were to go south, we could live on the eggs, and or eat the chickens.

I went into tractor supply today and they had gates up. Those were new. I like that they have chick days because I know I really dont want to have to see the chicks when they arrive in the mail. I would be to worried about dead chicks.

Duker17 - I think your post was great and it was in the correct discussion thread. I think we are seeing more complaints and whining this year due to all the "precious snowflakes" rushing into the stores and trying to be overnight experts. In my opinion they need to stay away from the feed stores and play with their cell phones. Many customers seem to think that their commission in life is to CHANGE things that they have absolutely no business sticking their noses into. It's kind of like all the "politically correct" nonsense. Our world is being overrun with sissies.

But it does make me upset to read some of the things regarding children that are being posted (tie the to the post outside was in one thread I read today as was spawns of satan). Just b/c you think yours are angels or you think you could have raised angels does not give you the right to stereotype all children as evil chicken killing machines. There are responsible parents out there just like there are people who have no clue. A lot of people do not have experience with chickens and some see pets as disposable. After all we have had celebrities that carry a different purse dog depending on their outfit. My own (soon to be ex) sister-in-law "forgot" my brothers mini-wiener dog in the basement of her house for 4 weeks while he was deployed in Iraq. My mom discovered it and after a lot of money spent at the vets he is physically fine. Mental is another story. After that all his animals, including his horses, went to live with my mom when he was gone.
