No, Nelda, Not Now, Please!

Love the name too...it's my mother's name, and quite unusual. You have good taste, madam speckledhen

One of my younger sister's friends had an older sister back in elementary school who was named Nelda. I've always remembered and loved the name.

Gina, Nelda sat in the nest all night. She got off, ate, drank, looked out the window for a bit, then went right back to the nest. I checked her over to be sure she wasn't hurt somehow, but she looks perfect. Maybe she is broody.

Oh my, they do what they do. I have a *useless* broody name Zipfi and we don't even have a roo. She's acting normal just now except for her endless belly-plucking. I suppose at some level sleeping in a warm nest makes sense in the weather, but she sure sounds broody (sorry)...

I didn't notice that she'd plucked herself, so there's a chance she's just keeping warm and out of the way of everyone, but she is feathered beautifully after her molt and has been laying, up till the day before yesterday.

And I thought my Chickens were confused.....LOL Betsy my youngest Buff Orp , God Bless her she is still laying me an egg a day, luckily she lays right before I go out in the afternoon so none have gotten too cold, well except the 2 I sat down on the bumper of the truck and forgot about

Why don't you and I start a broody-less support group?

Sounds good. Maybe if the chickens hear about it, they'll decide to be broody after all.

I even bought an incubator and hatched my own eggs. I thought for sure they'd go broody after I spent all that money..............but NOPE. I'll be incubating again next month, so maybe....

I'm sure when my coop is all filled up and I don't have any room for any more chickens............THEN I'll have a broody.

I don't believe Nelda is broody, at least not fully yet. She is off the nest now, but she keeps going back and spending lots of time in there. I've had them do that when they were working up to it. She did spend the better part of two days and one entire night in there this week.
