No no no no no!!! We did not just see that!

Why is it when there is a predator problem, there is this group that wants to blame people?
"Oh its peoples fault for ruining the habitat..."
Garbage!
When hunting was allowed and hunters were not "evil-killers-of-everything-that-moves", predator populations were kept in check. Especially animals like coyotes and mountain lions. WE, as people are providing more food, better habitat, and protection to these critters.
Coyotes turn up more and more in places like downtown L.A. or your backyard because they KNOW they won't be hunted and can find plenty of food. Human provided food. And yes, with more human contact they become more and more brazen and people ARE going to be hurt.
But it seems all common sense has been lost and we are led like sheep by so called "experts"(self proclaimed environmentalists) who, for the most part, are nothing more than educated idiots with an agenda. The original environmentalist were our great great grandparents. They, for them most part, had some schooling, no college, and were by far better stewards of our land because they used a common sense approach.

Ahhhh, you do touch on some fine points - Well said, I wish I could communicate as well. Just because I choose not to kill cause I'm squeemish about it, I agree with you completely. Overkill and causing extinction is bad, but Politics and environmentalists seem more about killing the human race than protecting it? Humans will probably become the endangered species. I imagine alot of experts are hoping that happens sooner than later!

But, aren't you doing the same thing? Blaming people for not hunting the predators enough?

I understand where you are coming from. As a predator ourself, we have the tendency to offset the balance, by either hunting the predators more or hunting the prey more. So technically, you are blaming the problem on people as well, just the people who don't hunt enough, that's all I'm saying. LOL

You can look at it either way. People complaining there is not enough prey, blame the people who "overhunt" the prey and "underhunted" the predator. Then you have the people complaining that prey are "overpopulated', then we can blame the people who "overhunted" the predators and "underhunted" the prey. LOL

I'm not taking sides, just pointing out a perspective.

Why? It's gone a bit off topic, but no one is upset or arguing with each other. At least not that I can see, and I usually pick up hostility fairly easily.

I doubt humans will become extinct unless we all end up killing ourselves. I am sorry but the planet can only support so much life and yes that includes all of mother natures critters. There needs to be balance right now cities are crowding out all the country sides. JMHO.

i live in rice tx. there are coyotes that come up on our land, practically our back porch.!! sometimes the yipping and howling wakes me up... i have a coyote/red heeler cross. i havent had a problem with coyotes hurting me, my dogs, my cats, my chickens, my goats or my horses...

i have a bigger problem with hawks... my friend down the dirt road from me had a rat terrior get picked up and killed by a hawk.....

rice tx. also has... panthers.. yep. panthers. with the long tails, and as big as a cow.. back in the 1800's there were alot of trains that came through here,, and still are,, anywase, a circus was coming through and part of the train got in a crash, they only things they didnt catch were the panthers and some horses..

i didnt believe it a long time ago when i moved here, but its true, i have seen many pictures and heard it from way too many people old and young.. its amazing!

the coyotes here are pretty healthy and fat, i assume thats why i havent had any losses from them.

My point was directed more to common sense. If you have a predator problem its because they've found an easy and plentiful food source, which in turn encourages unchecked breeding and the problem multiplies exponetially. In the past when populations were a threat to our livestock we took care of the problem. But in recent history hunting/hunters have been vilified and made out to be bloodthirsty idiots that shoot anything that moves. Game populations in most areas are larger now than they were when this country was first settled by Europeans. That is because hunters have funded game management programs and restricted hunting with hunting seasons and controlling the numbers allowed to be harvested. People don't upset the balance nearly as much as some would have you believe. Of course there aren't too many deer left in New York City, or Chicago etc... but wildlife are a lot more resilient than we give them credit for. The areas where game has declined the most is where "experts" have tried to dictate their will. Almost always their plans have the opposite effect of what they intended.
This isn't to say that people haven't caused problems. We hunted the bison to near extinction. We have matured as a society. But some want to take things to the exteme on the other side. Evil hunters, animals have rights like people, etc. I like animals, I have pets. But they are still animals. People are NOT and have a responsiblity to be good stewards to them. It seems like more and more people are worshipping animals instead of their Creator and that human life should take a back seat to animals, or be equal to.
