No smoking In Or Out

Health wise, I'd say the bigger problem today is obesity. The number of smokers has decreased signifigantly, but the number of overweight people has increased. Fat is killing just as many people as nicotine ever did.
Wonder how many overweight members condemned smokers on this thread.

Coop, dont go were not portraying you as evil, most smokers portray them selves as victims because they are not allowed to do everything they want regardless of who they may be hurting. I have no problem with you(smokers in general) smoking, but dont do it where me/my kids are subject to that smoke. If smokers can not understand that if they are smoking in a enclosed space be it a bar/plane/house that they ARE impacting those around them then they are in complete denial, and need to pull of the blinders.

I don't mean to stir the pot, really it is a genuine question: I see many many college kids who smoke. when I was a kid my mother was actually told to smoke when she was pregnant to ease her morning sickness! They either didn't know how bad it was or the tobacco companies were doing such a great job no one heard....

But, now everyone knows it is bad for you. Everyone knows it is expensive. So why do so many kids still pick up the habit? I am not getting on smokers for having an addiction, I just don't get why they picked that addiction up in the first place.

I'm guessing that in a few years the obese and overweight people will be the evil ones in society, as the smokers are right now, once there have been enough smokers quitting, they'll have to raise the taxes on something else.

I just hope that all the smokers who quit can keep a handle on weight gain

I'm still struggling with it, and winter makes it worse so lets hope no more pounds for me this year, I've taken my share

In my day - it was a different story, I was the cool bad (*& kid that did everything I wasn't supposed to.

I was that kid that if you told me NOT to do it, I would. Seriously surprised I made it to adulthood in one piece

Kids will smoke. The more you tell them not to, the more they will do it.

Smoking is a habit and an addiction. It's also a lifestyle. For some, like our kids, it's a right of passage. Most will quit in their twenties.

I have wondered that myself. Why would a young person take up smoking. There is a lot of public disapproval and your health is endangered.

WHen My mother was pregnant she was told not to smoke by her doctor and that was 43 years ago. So, exactly what older folks knew about the danger of smoking has always confused me. Although my mom was a chain smoker, she would not buy us those little candy cigs because she said that smoking was a dangerous, nasty habit. My husband's mother and father had medical training and gave their three year old son-my husband- drags off their cigarettes!

They told me that they didn't know that smoking was dangerous, but they had more medical knowledge then my mother.
